  • Cyndi's List Cyndi's List of Genealogy Sites on the Internet: more than 240,000 links, categorized & cross-referenced, in over 150 categories. This is the largest genealogy link page I have ever visited!

  • The Internet Genealogy Service of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints contains genealogical data of millions of individuals. This is a valuable resource, but be careful: the data is not always reliable, because many errors have happened while transcribing old records. But it is a good start, providing information about where to search and what to expect.

  • A very interesting approach of modern genealogy is offered by the non-commercial  WikiTree   project.
It's mission is to to create a single worldwide family tree that will make genealogy free and accessible for everyone.
Unlike in many other databases, their aim is to avoid any duplicates in this growing family tree.
I also have signed up there and started adding Bonitz family members to the global tree.

  • Genealogy.com used to be a "leading resource for family history". Today it is connected to the Ancestry.com website.

  • The search pages at Rootsweb.com offer many different databases for a free search.

  • Brother's Keeper for Windows
  • The genealogy software Brother's Keeper is a shareware program by John Steed. The appearance and performance of this software is excellent. Download your copy here!
